Hi everyone... I'm Gemma, the heart and hands behind Hilary Harry and Friends! On this International Women's Day, I'm stepping out from my usual morning on the farm to share a bit about what it's like being a female in a male-heavy environment and a bit more about the vision for the charity
Running the farm is my life's work. Every day, from dawn to dusk, I ensure our wildlife guests receive the care and rehabilitation they need. It's a demanding job (especially on top of raising two young kids!), but seeing the difference we make for the animals makes it all worth it
A question I get asked very often is how we afford to run the wildlife rescue service. In truth, I fund a lot of it through money generated by my other businesses. Here they are here:
Helping Hands Animal Care
Helping Hands Dog Park
Helping Hands Hygiene
Helping Hands Small Animal Boarding
It can be hard work and some months there's barely anything left over for me but I just couldn't see the animals not being cared for. This is why we need donations to be able to help more animals!
Our current dream is to build an even bigger wildlife aviary for animals that can't return to the wild. The space would allow them to live as naturally and happily as possible.
I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved so far, but there's so much more we can do - especially with your help. Whether through volunteering, donations or simply spreading the word, every little action you take can help us on our way to helping even more rescues!!
I'd love to hear from you - your thoughts, willingness to help or even your own stories about work/life in general! Feel free to comment below or reach out directly.
Gemma xx
